TUSC Press Release – Forthcoming Elections

Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) Press Release 16/2/13

TUSC announces it will stand candidates in County Council Elections

At its meeting last Monday Tusc supporters decided to stand a number of candidates for the county council elections to be held this year.

Steve Bell, a health worker, active trade unionist and prospective candidate stated ‘We are pleased to be able to stand more than one candidate this year, as it demonstrates that more people are willing to stand up against the three main political parties, who offer more of the same and sound very similar. We will certainly offer an alternative and challenge the notion that there is no alternative but to cut. We will be seeking endorsements from unions, individuals and organisations that are campaigning against the cuts. We know that so far we have only seen 20% of the cuts and that this April we will see significant cuts to the welfare budget. We would hope to work with people to oppose these cuts and all others that affect the 99%. We will be getting our message out that working people, the old, unemployed, students and disabled do not have to pay for the crisis of the banks. We hope people are able to join us and help out. I can be contacted on 07789915221 for more information or you can contact the national TUSC website or Socialist party website for further information.’

Dear Brother/Sister,

In May this year there will be local elections in Buckinghamshire.

I intend to stand as a Trade Unionists and Socialists Coalition candidate. I am standing against the main parties who all agree that jobs and public services must be cut in order top pay for an economic crisis caused by banks and multi-national business.
TUSC does not accept that cuts are necessary. There is plenty of money in the British economy but it is being used to bail out the rich and powerful while working class people are told to accept austerity.
TUSC is supported by many individual trade unionists, trade union branches and regions. In the last local elections TUSC opposed local NHS cuts and was the only party to oppose the government’s plans for HS2. TUSC’s election campaigns have been supported nationally by the RMT. You can read more about TUSC by visiting www.tusc.org.uk

TUSC is what it says in the name, a coalition. We invite any individual, trade union body or community group, who oppose all cuts and austerity, to talk with us about standing in the local elections as a TUSC candidate.
